TOKYO, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday, despite an upbeat lead form Wall Street overnight, as investors chose to secure gains following the Nikkei's sharp rise the previous day.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 200.68 points, or 0.89 percent, from Tuesday to 22,381.53.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 7.16 points, or 0.45 percent, at 1,586.29.

Iron and steel, rubber product and air transportation-linked issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
