GAZA, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian factions in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip on Wednesday called for a national plan to confront the Israeli plan to annex large parts of the West Bank lands.

The plan calls for ending the internal Palestinian division which has been going on since the summer of 2007, when Hamas violently seized control of Gaza after weeks of fighting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' security forces.

During a rally held in front of the UN office in Gaza, leaders of the factions, including the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and Hamas, declared the plan.

Dozens who joined the rally waved Palestinian flags and carried banners against the Israeli annexation plan.

Jamil Mezher, leader of PFLP, told Xinhua that the core of the plan "is based on boosting the Palestinian position in facing the conspiracies that aim at eliminating the Palestinian cause."

He highlighted the need for Arab and Islamic support for the Palestinian positions as well as the pressure to implement the international resolutions to end the Israeli occupation.

Meanwhile, Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader in Gaza, called for the immediate formation of an agreed national plan to confront the Israeli annexation plan.

"It is time for Gaza to take up its weapon to protect the Palestinian cause," said al-Hayya. Enditem
