MAPUTO, June 23 (Xinhua) -- The representative of the African Development Bank in Mozambique announced Tuesday in Maputo that the bank will fund and support the country's health system to set up more laboratories capable of running COVID-19 tests.

Pietro Toigo, the AfDB told press that the move is part of an amount estimated at 7.4 billion U.S. dollars that the bank announced as a support package for African countries in their response to COVID-19.

"This will allow the government to know about the dynamics of transmission and be able to take political decisions based on the needs," said the representative.

The amount to be channeled to Mozambique was not specified, but the country's sectors of economy and agriculture will also benefit from the support, said Toigo.

"AfDB will also protect the country's productive and employment potential, and we are working with the agriculture sector to ensure that the food system is not affected to maintain the food security," said the representative. Enditem
