BEIJING, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Thursday morning said 418 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 16,922 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country.

It took the number of deaths to 14,894 and total cases to 473,105.

WASHINGTON -- An official with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Wednesday that trade tensions could generate uncertainty and weigh on business confidence, urging countries to address the issue and ensure that the benefits of trade continue to support global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The global economy will come out of this deep slump, but looking ahead to the recovery, it will be very important to ensure that there are as few obstacles as possible in the recovery path," Malhar Nabar, division chief of the World Economic Studies Division in the IMF's Research Department, told Xinhua in a video interview Wednesday.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil on Wednesday reported 1,185 daily deaths of COVID-19, raising its death toll to 53,830.

In the last 24 hours, 42,725 new infections were reported, bringing the total number of cases to 1,188,631, the Ministry of Health said in its daily report.

SANTIAGO -- Chile has reported a total of 254,416 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, with 4,731 deaths, according to the country's health ministry.

In the past 24 hours, 3,649 new cases were detected and 226 patients have died, the ministry said.

CAIRO -- Egypt ported on Wednesday 1,420 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total cases registered in the country since mid-February to 59,561, said Egyptian Health Ministry.

On the same day, 85 patients died from the novel coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 2,450, Egyptian Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.

ANKARA -- Turkey reported 24 new COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 5,025 in the country, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the country climbed to 191,657, with 1,492 daily infections, he noted.

ROME -- The number of people who recovered from COVID-19 infections in Italy reached 186,111 on Wednesday, as 1,526 new recoveries were registered over the past 24 hours, the country's Civil Protection Department said in its daily bulletin.

There were 30 new fatalities over the 24 hours, which brought the country's death toll to 34,644, the Civil Protection Department said.

GENEVA -- The World Health Organization (WHO) said Wednesday that the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide is expected to reach 10 million within the next week, while underlining the vital role of oxygen concentrators in saving lives of severe and critical patients.

More than 9.1 million COVID-19 cases and more than 470,000 deaths have been reported to WHO, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at Wednesday's press briefing.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported five new imported COVID-19 cases Wednesday, bringing the total number of imported cases to 1,893, the National Health Commission said Thursday.

Of the five imported cases, three were reported in Gansu Province, one in Guangdong Province and one in Shaanxi Province, the commission said. Enditem
