RIO DE JANEIRO, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Paraguay international defender Junior Alonso is poised to join Brazilian Serie A club Atletico Mineiro after parting ways with Boca Juniors.

The 27-year-old is expected to complete his move to the Belo Horizonte side on July 1, a day after his Boca contract expires, Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte reported on Friday.

Alonso made 33 appearances for Boca Juniors across all competitions, having joined the Argentinian giants from Spain's Celta Viga. He has been capped 25 times for Paraguay since making his international debut in 2013.

Atletico has already added midfielders Leo Sena and Alan Franco, defender Wellington Bueno, and forwards Marrony da Silva and Keno to their squad this year.

The Brazilian Serie A season is expected to start in August, three months behind schedule because of the coronavirus pandemic. Enditem
