BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- Total COVID-19 cases in India surpassed 500,000 mark on Saturday, reaching 508,953, as the death toll reached 15,685, confirmed the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

Nearly 100,000 fresh cases have been detected in the country in past six days, showed the data.

The ministry said 384 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 18,552 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country.

SANTIAGO -- Chile registered 4,296 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours for a total of 263,360 cases, as well as another 165 deaths for a total of 5,068, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

The ministry said that there are currently 2,086 people hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 1,772 are on ventilators, with 437 in critical condition. According to the ministry, there are still 305 ventilators available to the public and private health networks.

CAIRO -- Egypt on Friday confirmed 1,625 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total infections registered in the country since mid-February to 62,755, according to the Egyptian Health Ministry.

Death toll from the disease rose to 2,620 after 87 fatalities were added in the past 24 hours, health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.

RAMALLAH -- Palestine on Friday announced 207 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally of coronavirus infections to 1,795.

Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila said in a press statement that this is the highest number of cases in one day since the outbreak of novel coronavirus in Palestine on March 5, adding that most of the new cases were recorded in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Saturday announced 15 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total cases inside the country to 713, with 142 recoveries and 18 deaths.

In a statement released earlier Saturday, the center said it received a total of 476 suspected samples, of which 461 tested negative and 15 positive.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Saturday it received reports of 21 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Friday, including 17 domestically transmitted and four imported ones.

All the domestically transmitted cases were reported in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. Enditem
