Live COVID-19 updates: India records biggest single-day case increase, total nears 530,000

BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry on Sunday morning said 410 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides 19,906 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 16,095 and total cases to 528,859.

This is the biggest single day spike in terms of new COVID-19 cases in the country so far.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 62 more cases of COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of Sunday, raising the total number of infections to 12,715.

The daily caseload rose above 60 in eight days due to the continued small cluster infections. Of the new cases, 22 were imported, lifting the combined figure to 1,550.

Small cluster infections were still found linked to religious gatherings from several churches.

No more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 282. The total fatality rate stood at 2.22 percent.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Sunday it received reports of 17 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, including 14 domestically transmitted and three imported ones.

All the domestically transmitted cases were reported in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan on Sunday reported 235 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 4,748.

Of the new cases, five are imported, while the remaining 230 are contacts of existing confirmed cases, according to a statement from Kyrgyzstan's Republican Headquarters for the Prevention of the Spread of COVID-19.

The total number of recoveries has risen to 2,242, with 30 newly recovered cases reported over the past 24 hours, while the death toll of COVID-19 in the country stands at 47, after one new death was reported in the period, according to the statement.

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines soared to 35,455 after the country's Department of Health reported 653 more infections on Sunday.

The ministry said in its bulletin that the number of recoveries further rose to 9,686 after 258 more patients have survived the disease.

The death toll increased to 1,244 after eight more patients have succumbed to the viral disease.

ISLAMABAD -- The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen to 202,955 in Pakistan with 4,118 fatalities, according to the data released by the country's health ministry on Sunday morning.

A total of 4,072 new cases and 83 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the ministry said. The mortality rate of the COVID-19 infected patients is about 2 percent.

Overall, there are 106,213 active cases in Pakistan and 92,624 people have recovered, which is 45.6 percent of the total confirmed cases.

TRIPOLI -- A total of 14 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 29 recoveries were reported over the last 24 hours, said the National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Sunday.

In a statement earlier Sunday, the center said it received a total of 1,062 suspected samples, of which 1,048 tested negative and 14 positive.

A total of 727 cases have so far been reported in the North African country with 171 recoveries and 18 deaths, the center said. Enditem
