Live COVID-19 updates: Russia's cases top 630,000

BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed 6,791 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 634,437, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Sunday.

The death toll grew by 104 to 9,073, while 399,087 people have so far recovered, including 5,735 over the last 24 hours, according to the statement.

TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 222,669 on Sunday after an overnight registration of 2,489 new infections, state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing that out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,406 have been hospitalized.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Sunday reported 551 new COVID-19 cases and four more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 44,942 and the death toll to 348, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

The new cases included 341 Kuwaiti nationals, the statement said.

YANGON -- Myanmar government announced Sunday further extension of temporary entry restrictions for visitors from all countries until July 31, state-run media quoted Foreign Affairs Ministry's announcement.

The extension is made to continue effective response measures to protect the people of the country from the risks of importation and spread of COVID-19, the ministry's announcement said.

NEW YORK -- Global confirmed COVID-19 cases topped 10 million on Sunday, reaching 10,001,527 as of 0933 GMT, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the global death toll of COVID-19 has reached 499,124, according to the CSSE.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry on Sunday morning said 410 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides 19,906 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 16,095 and total cases to 528,859.

This is the biggest single day spike in terms of new COVID-19 cases in the country so far.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 62 more cases of COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of Sunday, raising the total number of infections to 12,715.

The daily caseload rose above 60 in eight days due to the continued small cluster infections. Of the new cases, 22 were imported, lifting the combined figure to 1,550.

No more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 282. The total fatality rate stood at 2.22 percent.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Sunday it received reports of 17 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, including 14 domestically transmitted and three imported ones.

All the domestically transmitted cases were reported in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. Enditem
