BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW YORK -- Global COVID-19 deaths surpassed 500,000 on Sunday, reaching 500,108 as of 4:33 p.m. (2033 GMT), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the total COVID-19 cases around the world rose to 10,063,319, according to the CSSE.

JERUSALEM -- The number of coronavirus active cases in Israel has risen to 6,363, the highest since May 2, the state's Ministry of Health said on Sunday.

The ministry also reported 334 new cases, bringing the total to 23,755.

The number of death cases has risen from 317 to 318, while the number of patients in serious condition has dropped from 41 to 39.

CAIRO -- Egypt confirmed on Sunday 1,265 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total cases registered in the country since mid-February to 65,188, said the health ministry.

Meanwhile, 81 patients died from the novel coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 2,789, and 400 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals, increasing the total recoveries to 17,539, Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement.

PRAGUE -- The Czech Republic detected 260 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, but the surge is not a sign of a second wave in the country, said Health Minister Adam Vojtech on Sunday.

The number is very high, but the new outbreaks are confined to certain regions of the country, Vojtech explained to local media.

RABAT -- A total of 175 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Morocco on Sunday, bringing the overall number of coronavirus cases in the country to 12,052.

The number of recovered patients increased to 8,740 with 17 new recoveries, said Hind Ezzine, head of the Department of Epidemic Diseases of the Ministry of Health, at a regular press briefing.

RAMALLAH -- Palestine on Sunday announced that 195 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed, raising the total number of cases to 2,248.

According to Health Minister Mai al-Kaila, 621 of the total cases have recovered and seven have died.

SARAJEVO -- The "Chinese Bridge" Chinese proficiency competition for high school students was held online in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Sunday amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three high school students from BiH's capital of Sarajevo and Banja Luka, the second largest city of BiH, won the top three places. Judges selected the winners through Chinese speech, talent, quiz on Chinese history and culture and dictation in Chinese. Enditem
