OSLO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Norwegian Air announced on Monday that it has cancelled orders for 97 Boeing aircraft and will claim compensation from the U.S. plane manufacturer for the grounding of the 737 MAX and for 787 engine troubles.

The airline said it cancelled 92 of the 737 MAX jets, five 787 Dreamliners and the commercial services contract related to both fleets, and has "filed a legal claim seeking the return of pre-delivery payments related to the aircraft and compensation for the company's losses."

The announcement came after Boeing on Monday began its flight tests of the 737 MAX, in an effort to gain regulatory approval for it to return to operations.

Boeing said it is in talks with the Oslo-based carrier, as it is with other airlines, during this struggling time. Enditem
