Live COVID-19 updates: COVID-19 cases level off in Canada

BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

OTTAWA -- As far as the reopening of businesses and bars is concerned, Canada has been better than the United States at slowing the spread of COVID-19 through physical distancing and people increasingly wearing face masks in public, the latest update from Canada's Public Health Agency suggests.

"As the epidemic has slowed, the incident rate has steadily declined in all age groups," Theresa Tam, Canada's chief public health officer, said at a briefing here. "The epidemiology indicates the transmission is largely under control."

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Tuesday reported 40 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its national count to 802 with 206 recoveries and 23 deaths.

Among the 704 suspected samples received, 664 tested negative and 40 others positive, the center said in a statement earlier Tuesday.

MUMBAI -- Mumbai police seized 8,611 vehicles across the city found for violating lockdown norms of traveling beyond 2 km of residential area without a valid official reason.

As per the data, the police verified 30,072 vehicles across 137 check points in the city on Monday following its appeal to the citizens on Sunday to restrict their outdoor travel for essential activities within a 2-km radius of their homes to curb COVID-19.

KIGALI -- Rwanda on Monday reported 101 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, a record single-day increase of more than 100 cases in the central African country.

The increase brought the national tally to 1,001, according to the daily update of the COVID-19 pandemic issued by the Health Ministry.

DAKAR -- Senegalese President Makcy Sall said Monday night that, starting from 11 p.m. Tuesday, the state of emergency and the related curfew will be lifted across the country.

Due to the high risk of COVID-19 spreading, enclosed places hosting leisure activities will remain closed, Sall added during his televised address.

LOS ANGELES -- The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States with a population of over 10 million, has exceeded the 100,000 mark, local authorities said Monday.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported a daily record of 2,903 new infections, the largest single-day count in the metropolitan area since the pandemic hit the country, bringing the total number to 100,772.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Tuesday it received reports of 19 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Monday, including eight domestically transmitted and 11 imported ones.

Of the eight domestically transmitted cases, seven were reported in Beijing and one in Shanghai, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. Enditem
