TOKYO, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Wednesday as investor confidence was dented by a Bank of Japan (BOJ) Tankan survey showing large manufacturers' business confidence had tumbled, while rising coronavirus cases here and overseas added to a downbeat beat mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 166.41 points, or 0.75 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 22,121.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 20.16 points, or 1.29 percent, to finish at 1,538.61.

Pharmaceutical, textile and apparel, and real estate-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play. Enditem
