Lao gov't warns not to neglect COVID-19 preventive measures

VIENTIANE, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Lao government on Tuesday issued a new notice on relaxing the COVID-19 prevention measures, although the government has warned people countrywide and relevant authorities not to neglect containment and preventive measures to prevent a second wave of the disease.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Diseases Control under Lao Ministry of Health, Phonepaserd Sayamoungkhoun, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday that it was essential that every person and all relevant authorities strictly abide by the "new normal" guidelines and rules laid down by the government.

The country remains at risk of facing second wave of the disease as confirmed cases in the region and around the world keep rising, she added.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has urged everyone to continue to regularly wash their hands with soap, and to wear a face mask when going outside their homes and in crowded places.

According to the new notice issued by the Prime Minister's Office, effective from Wednesday until July 31, if any new cases are detected in any province the government will reimpose strict measures to limit the spread of the virus. Enditem
