RAMALLAH, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Palestine on Thursday announced 322 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number in the Palestinian territories to 3,417.

Among the new cases were 281 in the southern West Bank district of Hebron, said the Palestinian health ministry.

Meanwhile, 11 out of the 2,772 active cases are in critical condition, including three on respirators for breathing difficulty, the ministry added.

Hebron, the largest district in the West Bank, has become the epicenter of the new coronavirus wave that hit the region in mid-June, followed by Nablus in the northern West Bank.

This epidemic resurgence comes mainly as a result of contacts with Palestinians from inside Israel or workers in Israel, according to medical experts.

Palestine has renewed lockdown in the West Bank for five days amid a new spike in the COVID-19 cases in its territory. Enditem
