BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

CAPE TOWN -- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has decided to extend troop deployment across the country to help enforce COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, the parliament said on Thursday.

Thandi Modise, speaker of the National Assembly (the Lower House), and Amos Masondo, chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (the Upper House), have received correspondence from Ramaphosa about that decision, parliamentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo said in a statement emailed to Xinhua.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health.

The number of active cases in New Zealand remains at 18, all of which are in managed isolation or quarantine facilities. There are no cases of COVID-19 in the community, a ministry statement said.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 63 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of 0:00 a.m. Friday local time, raising the total number of infections in the country to 12,967.

The daily caseload rose above 60 in five days amid the continued small cluster infections and imported cases. Of the new cases, 11 were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 1,619.

SEOUL -- South Korea's online shopping continued to rise in double digits in May as people refrained from shopping outside amid the fear of the COVID-19 outbreak, statistical office data showed Friday.

Consumers' purchase in the cyberspace reached 12.7 trillion won (10.6 billion U.S. dollars) in May, up 13.1 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

NEW DELHI -- India's health ministry on Friday morning said 379 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 20,903 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 18,213 and total cases to 625,544.

"As on 8:00 a.m. (local time) Thursday, 18,213 deaths related to novel Coronavirus have been recorded in the country," read the information released by the ministry. Enditem
