BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed novel coronavirus cases rose to 235,429 on Friday after an overnight registration of 2,566 new infections, according to official IRNA news agency.

During her daily briefing, Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,483 were hospitalized.

The pandemic has so far claimed the lives of 11,260 Iranians, up by 154 in the past 24 hours, she said.

JAKARTA -- COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,301 within one day to 60,695, with the death toll adding by 49 to 3,036, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Friday.

According to him, 901 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 27,568.

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines soared to 40,336 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,531 new cases on Friday, the country's biggest single-day jump so far.

The DOH said in its bulletin that the number of recoveries further rose to 11,073 after 400 more patients have survived the disease.

DHAKA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh Friday reached 156,391 as over 3,000 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing Friday afternoon that "3,114 new COVID-19 positive cases and 42 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh."

"The number of confirmed infections in the country totaled 156,391 while fatalities stood at 1,968," she said.

KABUL -- Afghanistan reported 302 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total to 32,324, the country's Ministry of Public Health said.

Within the past 24 hours, 772 tests were conducted across the country, and 302 were positive, the ministry said in a statement.

The death toll has reached 819 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in February, an increase of 12 within the past 24 hours.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported five new COVID-19 infections on Friday, the Health Ministry said, pushing the national total to 8,648 cases.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press briefing that of the new cases, three are imported and two are local transmissions.

It's the fifth consecutive day that Malaysia reported single digit case increase.

MOSCOW -- Russia recorded 6,718 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 667,883, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement Friday.

The death toll rose by 176 to 9,859, while 437,893 people have recovered, including 8,915 over the last 24 hours, said the statement. Enditem
