Live COVID-19 updates: Saudi Arabia's cases surpass 200,000

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIYADH -- Saudi Arabia's COVID-19 cases surpassed 200,000 on Friday.

A total of 4,193 new cases were reported, bringing the accumulated infections to 201,801, the Health Ministry tweeted.

The recoveries reached 140,614 with the registration of 2,945 new recovered cases.

The death toll rose to 1,802 with 50 more fatalities in the last 24 hours.

ANKARA -- Turkey's COVID-19 cases increased by 1,172 on Friday, while the total cases climbed to 203,456, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said.

Meanwhile, 19 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 5,186, the minister tweeted.

Turkey conducted 52,141 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 3,535,818, he said.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday announced 672 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 50,141.

UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said in a statement the new cases include many nationalities. All are in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

CAIRO -- Egypt reported on Friday 1,412 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total cases in the country to 72,711, said the Health Ministry.

According to Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed, 81 patients died from the novel coronavirus, raising the death toll to 3,201.

BEIJING -- Beijing reported one new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 case Friday, the municipal health commission said Saturday.

One suspected case was also reported but no asymptomatic cases were reported. Two were discharged from hospital after recovery Friday, the commission said in a daily report.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump headed to Mount Rushmore National Memorial on Friday to kick off the July 4th celebrations amid the nationwide surge of new coronavirus cases.

Up to 7,500 people will attend the gathering and watch fireworks display at Mount Rushmore, midwestern state South Dakota, local media estimated. Enditem
