NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Saturday morning said 442 new deaths due to COVID-19, besides fresh 22,771 positive cases, were reported during the past 24 hours across the country, taking the number of deaths to 18,655 and total cases to 648,315.

"As on 8:00 a.m. (local time) Saturday, 18,655 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the ministry. (India-COVID-19 cases)

TOKYO -- Nine people were missing and 15 others showed no vital signs due to massive flooding triggered by torrential rain in the southwestern Japanese prefectures of Kumamoto and Kagoshima, local media reported.

MANILA -- The number of the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 41,830 after the country's Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,494 new cases on Saturday.

The DOH said in its bulletin that the number of recoveries further rose to 11,453 after 380 more patients have survived the disease. The death toll also increased to 1,290 after 10 more patients have succumbed to the viral disease, the DOH said. (Phlippines-COVID-19) Enditem
