GENEVA -- The World Health Organization (WHO) on Friday urged countries hit by coronavirus disease to "wake up" to the pandemic situation on the ground and to "take control" of the spread of the virus.

"People need to wake up. The data is not lying. The situation on the ground is not lying," Michael Ryan, WHO emergencies director, told reporters here. (UN-WHO-COVID-19)

JAKARTA -- COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,447 within one day to 62,142, with the death toll adding by 53 to 3,089, Achmad Yurianto, a health ministry official, said at a press conference here on Saturday.

MOGADISHU -- At least seven people have been injured following a huge blast in the Somali capital here early Saturday, a medical charity said.

WASHINGTON -- A 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted southern East Pacific Rise at 0740 GMT on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 35.0504 degrees south latitude and 107.6117 degrees west longitude. (US-Quake) Enditem
