BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MANILA -- The number of the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 41,830 after the country's Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,494 new cases on Saturday.

The DOH said in its bulletin that the number of recoveries further rose to 11,453 after 380 more patients have survived the disease.

JAKARTA -- COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,447 within one day to 62,142, with the death toll adding by 53 to 3,089, Achmad Yurianto, a health ministry official, said at a press conference here on Saturday.

According to him, 651 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 28,219.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 10 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, the country's Health Ministry said, pushing the national total to 8,658 cases.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that of the new cases, seven are imported and three more are local transmissions.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with the national tally of cases standing at 141.

It marked the 58th consecutive day without new cases since May 7.

DHAKA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh reached 159,679 Saturday as 3,288 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing Saturday afternoon that "3,288 new COVID-19 positive cases and 29 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh."

SINGAPORE -- Beijing's way of containing the second wave of COVID-19 recently can minimize the pandemic fallout, an expert has said in an opinion piece posted by the South China Morning Post.
