Live COVID-19 updates: Cambodia postpones 13th Asia-Europe Meeting amid pandemic

BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia, the host of the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit, has decided to postpone the ASEM 13, which had initially been scheduled for Nov. 16-17 in Phnom Penh, to mid-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a foreign ministry's press statement on Saturday.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Sunday that it received reports of eight new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Saturday, of which two were domestically transmitted.

The domestically transmitted cases were reported in Beijing, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

KIGALI -- Rwanda on Saturday announced the country will resume commercial flights on Aug. 1, which have been suspended since March 20 in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Airport operations will adhere to the guidelines issued by the health ministry and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization to ensure safety and health of passengers amid the pandemic, said the Ministry of Infrastructure in an announcement.

TRIPOLI -- Libya's National Center for Disease Control on Sunday reported a record daily increase of 71 COVID-19 cases, taking the nationwide tally to 989.

In a statement earlier Sunday, the center said it had received a total of 497 suspected samples, 426 of which tested negative and 71 positive.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday announced 716 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 50,857.

The UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said in a statement the new cases include many nationalities. All are in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health reported 185 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 44,664.

Of the new cases, one is an imported case, nine are community cases and the rest are linked with the dormitories of foreign workers. Enditem
