YANGON -- A total of 35 people were killed with 202 injured in traffic accidents on Myanmar's Yangon-Mandalay highway in the first half year, state-run media quoted Highway Police's figures as saying on Sunday.

From January to June this year, there were a total of 183 road accidents reported on Myanmar's busiest highway, where March was recorded with the highest numbers of casualties, registering nine deaths and 48 injured in 36 traffic accidents. (Myanmar-Highway Accidents)

KAMPALA -- The Confucius Institute at Makerere University, Uganda's top university, held the 19th "Chinese Bridge" speech competition online on Saturday -- its first ever to be held virtually with COVID-19 restrictions in place.

KIGALI -- Rwanda on Saturday announced the country will resume commercial flights on August 1, which have been suspended since March 20 in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Airport operations will adhere to the guidelines issued by the health ministry and recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization to ensure safety and health of passengers amid the pandemic, said the Ministry of Infrastructure in an announcement. CAPE TOWN -- South Africa has seen a sudden escalation of farm murders recently amid the COVID-19 pandemic, civil rights organisation AfriForum said on Saturday.
