Indonesia reports 1,607 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 82 new deaths

JAKARTA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,607 within one day to 63,749, with the death toll adding by 82 to 3,171, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Sunday.

He also said that 886 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 29,105.

Within the past 24 hours, five provinces, namely Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java and South Sulawesi, recorded high numbers of cases, Yurianto said.

No more new positive cases were found in seven provinces, namely Aceh, North Kalimantan, East Nusa Tenggara, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, and Gorontalo.

Yurianto called on the public to obey the health protocols to avoid more COVID-19 infections. Enditem
