TOKYO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday as Chinese stocks making gains lifted the market mood, while a weaker yen versus the U.S. dollar gave exporter issues a boost.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 407.96 points, or 1.83 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,714.44.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 24.82 points, or 1.60 percent, to finish at 1,577.15.
Marine transportation, securities house, and iron and steel-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play. Enditem
