KHARTOUM, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's General Intelligence Service (GIS) announced on Monday that it had bust a network of currency counterfeiting.

"The economic security authority of the GIS has managed to bust a professional currency counterfeiting network, with more than 500,000 Sudanese pounds and foreign currencies in possession of its members," the GIS's office said in a statement.

It is the second such operation in July, in which "all elements of the network including the mastermind" were arrested, it added.

During the operation, two advanced printing machines were seized along with tools used in currency counterfeiting, according to the statement.

The Sudanese economy has been suffering from the depreciation of the national currency and the soaring inflation. Enditem
