TOKYO -- The Tokyo metropolitan government on Tuesday confirmed 106 new daily COVID-19 infections in Tokyo, with the number of new cases topping 100 for the sixth straight day in the capital as the rebound in cases continues.

The nationwide cumulative total of COVID-19 cases breached the 20,000 mark, with 211 new cases confirmed across Japan, according to the latest figures Tuesday evening. (Japan-Tokyo-COVID19)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported on Tuesday 14 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19, including nine local infections and five imported cases.

TOKYO -- The death toll from intense downpours in Japan's deluge-hit southwestern region of Kyushu increased to 55 Tuesday with at least 13 people still unaccounted for, as the government was considering declaring the situation an "extraordinary disaster."

Officials in hard-hit Kumamoto Prefecture, in central Kyushu, confirmed that 53 people have died as a result of the torrential rain, which has caused extensive flooding and triggered landslides, while two others who were rescued were reported earlier Tuesday as showing no vital signs.

JAKARTA -- Tourist destinations situated in Indonesia's areas with low risks of novel coronavirus transmissions have gradually resumed welcoming visitors, according to a statement issued by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry on Tuesday.

The resumption has been prioritized in the green zones under tight health protocols to protect the holidaymakers from the virus contagion and deter imported cases in the destinations, the ministry said. (Indonesia-Tourism) Enditem
