BEIJING, July 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday the White House will push state governors hard to get schools opened in the fall despite a spike in coronavirus cases in the country.

"We're very much going to put pressure on governors and everyone else to open the schools," Trump said at a White House meeting with government officials and school administrators.

WINDHOEK -- Primary schools in Namibia reopened under strict health guidelines on Tuesday after COVID-19 shutdowns with students wearing masks and conducting social distancing.

More than 300,000 learners from pre-primary schools to grade three returned to school on Tuesday, said Absalom Absalom, public relations officer in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture.

ROME, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Italy's national serological testing plan is faced with a challenge as too few Italians are taking the test for coronavirus antibodies for the results to be valid, officials said.

Officials from the Italian Red Cross told Xinhua Tuesday that preliminary results could ultimately be useful in some limited parts of the country.

VIENTIANE -- All travellers exiting Laos will be required to produce medical certificates for their destination country to contain the spread of COVID-19, a Lao official said.

The National Taskforce Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has said that all travellers, including locals, must have a medical certificate before they visit another country. The committee said people who did not have a valid medical certificate would be denied entry at their destinations.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Wednesday that it received reports of seven new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, of which all were imported.

Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region reported four imported cases, while Shanxi, Guangdong and Yunnan each reported one, the National Health Commission said in its daily report.

MUSCAT -- Oman on Tuesday reported 1,262 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the country to 48,997.

Omani Ministry of Health said in a statement that the new cases included 968 Omanis and 294 non-Omanis.

ISLAMABAD -- The Pakistani government said on Tuesday that COVID-19 may widely spread in the country during the forthcoming Eid al-Adha festival if people do not follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) formed to contain the spread of the disease.

Briefing media about the cabinet meeting following its conclusion, the country's Information Minister Shibli Faraz said that people should follow the SOPs and keep taking precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the disease during Eid al-Adha to be observed by the end of this month. Enditem
