WASHINGTON -- U.S. city Tulsa, where President Donald Trump held his first campaign rally amid the coronavirus pandemic on June 20, is experiencing an increase in newly reported coronavirus cases, the city's health department said on Wednesday.

There are high numbers being reported this week in Tulsa, the second largest city in U.S. state Oklahoma, with nearly 500 new cases in two days and trends are showing that those numbers would go up, Dr. Bruce Dart, executive director of the Tulsa Health Department, said at a press conference.

NEW YORK -- Brooks Brothers, one of the oldest apparel retailer in the United States, filed for bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to impact businesses.

The company said in a statement that it has commenced Chapter 11 cases in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware to facilitate a value-maximizing sale process.

HAVANA -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday blamed the current global economic and health crisis on neoliberalism and capitalism.

In an address to the International Labour Organization's (ILO) virtual global summit on COVID-19, the Cuban leader warned that "unemployment has multiplied and social vulnerability is on the rise, increasing inequality and poverty."

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 50,359 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,539 new cases on Wednesday, the country's biggest single-day increase to date.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries further rose to 12,588 after 202 more patients have survived the disease.

ISTANBUL -- Turkey on Wednesday launched a nationwide inspection of the precautionary measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, in a bid to stem its spread.

In a circular sent to all the governor's offices in 81 provinces on Tuesday, Turkish Interior Ministry said widespread controls would be carried out in a series of workplaces and activity areas throughout the country on Wednesday.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 221 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking its total to 64,224, according to the country's health ministry.

There were 952 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 52,854, the ministry added.

YEREVAN -- Armenia on Wednesday reported 535 new COVID-19 cases, taking its total to 29,820, according to the country's National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

Deputy Defense Minister Gabriel Balayan is among the new confirmed cases.

Data from the NCDC showed that 520 more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 17,427. Meanwhile, 18 people died in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 521. Enditem
