BRATISLAVA, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Having secured its tenth championship title in the Slovak premier football league, Fortuna Liga, last month, Slovan Bratislava Sports Club also emerged victorious in the final match of the Slovnaft Cup (Slovakia's premier cup competition) after defeating MFK Ruzomberok 1-0 on Wednesday.

Bratislava could have snatched an early lead on home turf but the visitors' goalkeeper Matus Macik's produced two wonderful saves, one after Zan Medved's attempt, another one against Ibrahim Rabiu's header only minutes later which got pushed into the goalpost and out.

The favorites crowned their offensive efforts early in the second half when Slovenian striker Medved got fouled in the penalty box on a break-away and the referee sounded the whistle.

Bratislava's other Slovenian striker Alen Ozbolt took it upon himself to execute and capitalized on the penalty shot.

Ozbolt's goal turned out to be the decider as neither of the teams managed to make good on the numerous chances produced later in the game.

"We were going for the win from the beginning. We were the better team and we deserve the victory. Again, only one goal decided our clash with Ruzomberok, always a tough opponent, but we take what we can get. The whole season was wonderful and the double is even better," said Bratislava's coach Jan Kozak Jr. shortly after the match.

Bratislava have won 16 Slovak Cup trophies. Enditem
