YANGON -- Myanmar President U Win Myint instructed all stakeholders to ensure a free and fair election, according to a release from the President's Office on Thursday.

The president gave the instructions and guidance at a recent meeting with officials including the chairman of Union Election Commission (UEC), union ministers, the attorney-general of the union and the UEC members on Wednesday, the presidential release said. ISLAMABAD -- A civil court in Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore had issued notices to the U.S. Embassy to Pakistan and others on a 20 billion U.S. dollars damages suit filed by a citizen over the spread of COVID-19, local media and a lawyer said Thursday.

A senior advocate from Lahore Waseem Yusuf Khan, who witnessed the court proceedings, told Xinhua that the plaintiff named Raza Ali, who recovered from COVID-19 recently, alleged in his suit on Wednesday that the United States is the sole responsible for unchecked spread of the pandemic which caused losses to him, his family and the country.

The plaintiff has also made U.S. Consul General in Lahore, the U.S. secretary of defense through the consul general defendants in his petition, saying that his family members are suffering and their health was compromised and that they might not be able to live a healthy life again. KATHMANDU -- At least two people died and 18 others were missing as rain-triggered floods hit Nepal's Sindhupalchowk district Wednesday night, local administration and police confirmed.

The floods and landslides had also damaged the road connecting the Tatopani-Zhangmu border point between Nepal and China, they said. (Nepal-Flood-Damage)

SEOUL -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in's approval rating gained this week, marking the first rebound in seven weeks, a weekly poll showed Thursday.

According to the Realmeter survey, support for Moon added 0.2 percentage points over the week to 50.0 percent this week. It ended the downward trend for the past six weeks.

The negative assessment on Moon's conduct of state affairs rose 0.2 percentage points to 45.7 percent. (South Korea-President's Approval Rate) Enditem
