Live COVID-19 updates: Armenia's COVID-19 cases top 30,000, with 535 deaths

BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YEREVAN -- Armenia on Thursday reported 526 new COVID-19 cases, taking its overall tally of infections to 30,346, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said.

The country also registered 14 additional fatalities in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 535.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Thursday reported 833 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 52,840 and the death toll to 382, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 9,772 patients are receiving treatment, including 150 in ICU, the statement added.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 42 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, including 34 local cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,365.

Among the 42 new infections, 23 people were related to the residential care home for the elderly outbreak cluster, nine were related to cases confirmed earlier, and two with unknown sources of infection. The rest are imported cases.

Secretary for Food and Health of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Sophia Chan told a press briefing Thursday that epidemic preventive measures in Hong Kong will be tightened.

TEHRAN -- The total fatalities over the novel coronavirus in Iran hit 12,305 on Thursday after registration of 221 death cases overnight, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

Over the past 24 hours, 2,079 new infection cases were registered, taking the total confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the country to 250,458 on Thursday, Lari said during her daily update.

KAMPALA -- Uganda's ministry of health on Thursday reported 23 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of registered cases in the country to 1,000.

The ministry in a statement issued here said out of the 3,316 samples collected over the past 24 hours, 12 Uganda nationals who returned from abroad, three Ugandan cross-border truck drivers and eight contacts and alert cases tested positive for the virus.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported another six new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the national total to 8,683 cases, the Health Ministry said,

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that all the new cases are imported from among those returning from overseas, hence no local transmission for a second day.

KIEV -- A total of 51,224 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,327 deaths were registered in Ukraine on Thursday, while 23,784 patients have recovered, according to the Public Health Center under Ukraine's Health Ministry.

A total of 810 new patients have tested positive for the coronavirus in Ukraine in the past 24 hours.

HARARE -- Zimbabwe registered 98 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the country's tally to 885.

Of the total, 51 are citizens who returned from South Africa, Botswana and Swaziland while 47 are local transmissions, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said in a statement.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 2,657 within one day to 70,736, with the death toll adding by 58 to 3,417, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said on Thursday.

According to him, 1,066 more people had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 32,651. Enditem
