RAMALLAH, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Palestine recorded on Sunday two new COVID-19 deaths in the West Bank, bringing the death toll to 39 since March 5, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.

The ministry said in an emailed press statement that two women, aged 65 and 71, from the southern West Bank district of Hebron, died from the deadly coronavirus.

The statement also said that the total number of infections in the Palestinian territories has reached 7,037, including 5,761 who are receiving medical care, 1,237 recoveries and 39 deaths.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim Milhem, spokesman of the Palestinian government, told a news briefing in Ramallah on Sunday that the government decided to extend the lockdown and tighten precautionary measures in the West Bank.

He announced that the government will prevent the movement between the West Bank districts for two weeks and that there will be a daily evaluation of the situation.

Milhem added that the government decided to extend the lockdown in the districts of Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Nablus for four days and close the infected villages, camps, and neighborhoods in other districts.

Milhem also said the government decided to impose a lockdown on all the West Bank districts during the weekends for two weeks, but bakeries and pharmacies will stay open.

Additionally, "the government will ban the movement in the West Bank from eight in the evening to six in the morning in all districts for two weeks," he said, adding that this will be reviewed upon the severity of the epidemic.

Milhem also said that it is forbidden to hold weddings, funerals, festivals, and any gatherings in all districts, including summer camps, adding that beauty salons and sports clubs will remain closed. Enditem
