ALGIERS, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Algerian Health Minister Abderrahman Benbouzid on Sunday announced that hospital reception capacity for COVID-19 patients will be increased in the country.

"I have instructed all officials to make arrangements regarding the number of beds allocated for COVID-19 patients, as no Algerian should go to the hospital and find no place in it. This is unacceptable," Benbouzid said.

The minister also said that the health sector was "surprised" by the high number of COVID-19 cases.

As of Sunday, Algeria has reported a total of 19,191 COVID-19 cases with 1,011 deaths.

China and Algeria have offered mutual help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Chinese medical expert team arrived in Algeria on May 14 for a 15-day mission to help fight the coronavirus, through sharing China's experiences in controlling its spread. Enditem
