German shares lose 1.23 pct at start of trading on Tuesday

BERLIN, July 14 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were off to a shaky start on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index losing 157.74 points, or 1.23 percent, opening at 12,642.23 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's largest 30 companies at the start of trading was financial service provider Wirecard, decreasing the least by 0.12 percent, followed by housing company Vonovia with minus 0.22 percent and dialysis specialist Fresenius Medical Care that fell by 0.24 percent.

German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon, with its shares falling by 3.17 percent, was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Tuesday, after reaching a new high this year on Monday. Shares of the company have gone up around 130 percent since mid-March.

On Wednesday, automotive supplier Continental is scheduled to hold its annual general meeting virtually. The company is expecting a "very difficult third quarter" following the weakest second quarter of the global automobile industry since 1945.

The inflation rate in Germany in June increased to 0.9 percent, the German Federal Statistical Office said Thursday, while the figure in May had still declined for the third consecutive month and stood at 0.6 percent.

The yield on German 10-year bonds went down 0.028 percentage points to minus 0.435 percent, and the euro was trading unchanged at 1.1348 U.S. dollars on Tuesday morning. Enditem
