WARSAW, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Polish spiker Bartosz Kurek emphasized that "he is happy and ready for the new challenge" in an interview for Polish media on Tuesday after the Japanese side Wolfdogs Nagoya has confirmed his transfer.

In the previous season, Kurek, the MVP of 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship, played for the Italian team Vero Volley Monza. After the competition ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he signed a contract with Wolfdogs on Monday, a return to Japan for the 31-year-old as he had played for JT Thunders in 2016.

"I feel ready and happy that once again I got the opportunity to perform in this country. I wanted to complete what I could not achieve four years ago," said Kurek in the interview for Przeglad Sportowy.

In Japan, Kurek will work under the coach Tommi Tiilikainen. "We keep in touch. I will be the only foreigner in his team and I'm happy that I joined club where the coach is a young man as he is 33. I would like to present myself well and push my career in the right direction," added Kurek.

Kurek's main goal for 2021 is the Olympic gold with Poland's national team. "The coach probably makes a slow selection in his head. Regardless of whether I would be sure or have to fight for a place in the team, I behave the same," said the Pole.

"The Olympic Games can be something more than just sport rivalisation. They can become a symbol of a return to normality. I believe that next year we will be able to meet on the great celebration of victory," concluded the player. Enditem
