RIO DE JANEIRO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Colombian winger Yony Gonzalez has returned to Portugal's Benfica, less than six months after joining Brazilian Serie A club Corinthians.

Gonzalez arrived in Sao Paulo in February on a loan deal that included an option for Corinthians to make the deal permanent after six months.

However that agreement required the 26-year-old to play at least five matches, a target he failed to reach because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Sport Club Corinthians have informed Benfica of the return of striker Yony Gonzalez after the end of the loan," read a Corinthians statement on Tuesday.

"He trained with the rest of the group for the last time on Tuesday. Corinthians thank the Colombian for the services provided in this period and wish him success for the rest of his career."

Gonzalez made four appearances for Corinthians, whom he joined just two months after signing with Benfica from Rio de Janeiro giants Fluminense. Enditem
