Kyrgyzstan's COVID-19 cases near 24,000

BISHKEK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan reported on Friday an increase of 23,783 COVID-19 cases in the country after registering 1,654 new cases.

The head of the public health care department of the country's Health Ministry Ainura Akmatova said at a regular news briefing that 603 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 1,051 community-acquired pneumonia cases have been registered in the country over the past day.

She explained that on Thursday the country's health ministry decided to take a unified approach in treating COVID-19.

Thus, statistical cases of community-acquired pneumonia are considered a manifestation of COVID-19, Akmatova said.

Of the new cases, 123 are medical workers, raising the tally of contracted medical workers to 2,199, she added.

The number of people who have recovered increased to 6,096.

Meanwhile, the death toll reached 785 since the beginning of the pandemic after 83 more fatalities were added, 77 people from pneumonia and six from COVID-19.

There are currently 709 COVID-19 patients in hospitals who are receiving treatment with 21 in intensive care units.

Kyrgyz heath workers administered 2,406 tests for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. Enditem
