ISTANBUL, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Sunday detained 27 people in Istanbul over suspected links to the Islamic State (IS), a local media outlet reported.

Police launched operations simultaneously in 15 districts across the city to capture the suspects, the state-run TRT broadcaster said.

Counter-terrorism units believed that those targeted in operations have been planning to conduct terror activities in several places in Istanbul, according to the broadcaster.

Many digital materials were also seized during the raids.

The IS was blamed for a spate of deadly attacks over the years in Turkey, in which more than 300 people were killed. Enditem
