MALE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Maldives has received over 195 million U.S. dollars as aid from international donors amid the COVID-19 pandemic, local media citing the Ministry of Finance reported here Wednesday.

According to data from the Ministry of Finance, the government has received aid, in the form of grants and concessional loans, including 52.3 million U.S. dollars from the Asian Development Bank, 31 million U.S. dollars from the World Bank, 28.9 million U.S. dollars from the International Monetary Fund, and 22.6 million U.S. dollars from the European Investment Bank.

The country has also received 35.6 million U.S. dollars from the Islamic Development Bank and 20 million U.S. dollars from the OPEC Fund for International Development.

In terms of bilateral aid, Maldives has received 7.4 million U.S. dollars from Japan, 1 million U.S. dollars from Canada, and a range of technical assistance from countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

According to state media, financial aid has been funneled into strengthening anti-epidemic measures, including expanding capacity for testing and treatment and buffering businesses and individuals against the economic impacts of COVID-19. Enditem
