Live COVID-19 updates: Beijing allows public transport to operate at full capacity

BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEIJING -- As part of easing restrictions to control the COVID-19 epidemic, Beijing has allowed its buses and subways to operate at full capacity.

The passenger capacity of buses has been raised from 90 percent to 100 percent while that of subway is up from 80 percent to 100 percent, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport.

DHAKA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh reached 221,178 on Saturday as about 2,500 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing that "2,520 new COVID-19 positive cases and 38 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh."

TOKYO -- The confirmed COVID-19 cases in Japan topped 30,000 on Saturday, according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities, with the figure including cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's COVID-19 epidemic situation remained worrying as the number of new cases refreshed the daily record for a fourth straight day on Saturday.

A total of 133 cases were reported to the Center for Health Protection (CHP) over the past 24 hours ending on Friday midnight, including 126 local infections. The daily increase stood at 123, 118 and 113 for the previous three days respectively.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Saturday reported 684 new COVID-19 cases and four more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 63,309 and the death toll to 429, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 9,273 patients are receiving treatment, including 123 in ICU, the statement added.

ACCRA -- The number of persons infected by the novel coronavirus in Ghana has increased to 31,057, with 691 more cases confirmed here early Saturday, said the latest update from the Ghana Health Service.

The number of discharged cases increased to 27,801, with 1,114 more cases completing their treatment.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,868 within one day to 97,286, with the death toll adding by 49 to 4,714, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 1,409 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 55,354.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 5,871 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 806,720, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Saturday.

Meanwhile, 146 new deaths were reported, bringing the nationwide count to 13,192, said the statement.

MANILA -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 78,412 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,019 new cases on Saturday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries further rose to 25,752 after 1,278 more patients have survived the disease. Enditem
