CAIRO, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Egypt expressed on Monday concern over Ethiopia's unilateral filling of its disputed Nile dam.

Ethiopia's move to start filling the dam's reservoir raised questions about the feasibility of negotiations to reach a fair agreement on the filling and operation of the dam, the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources said in a statement.

A meeting sponsored by the African Union between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which started on Monday, has been postponed to Aug. 3 for further domestic consultations, the ministry noted.

The three countries agreed during a video conference on July 21 to resume talks to narrow their differences.

Ethiopia started building the GERD in 2011, while Egypt, a downstream Nile Basin country that relies on the river for its fresh water, is concerned that the dam might affect its 55.5-billion-cubic-meter annual share of the water resources. Enditem
