IRGC launches military drills in southern Iran

TEHRAN, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday launched a large-scale military exercise in southern Iran, Tasnim news agency reported.

The war game, codenamed Payambar-e Azam 14 (The Great Prophet 14), was conducted in the southern province of Hormozgan, western parts of the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf, the IRGC statement was cited as reading.

In the drills, the IRGC's Navy and Aerospace Forces carry out joint operations in which vessels, drones, missile and radar units are involved.

The servicemen attending the war game exercise offensive mine-laying operations and tactics to cut off naval connections of the hypothetical enemy. They also practice missile combat operations using helicopters, and launch of coast-to-sea missiles.

According to the report, images from Iran's Noor (light) satellite are used to evaluate the situation in the war game zone. Enditem
