BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.71 percent at 3,227.96 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.31 percent higher at 13,147.35 points.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 107.98 points on Tuesday, up 5.13 points or 4.99 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 126 stocks went up, 39 stocks dropped, while 191 stocks remained unchanged.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 813.36 points on Tuesday, up 28.19 points, or 3.59 percent against the previous trading day.

On Tuesday, VN30-Index, a benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 756.17 points, up 26.24 points or 3.59 percent.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 38,492.95, 558.22 points or 1.47 percent up compared to its previous close at 37,934.73.

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,112.99 points on Tuesday, down by 3.68 points, or 0.072 percent against that on the previous trading day.

Prices of 239 stocks dropped, 166 stocks went up, while 175 stocks remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.28 percent, or 7.18 points, to close at 2,582.97.

The STI index went down 0.14 percent, or 3.72 points, to close at 2,575.79 on Monday.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 2.8 points, or 0.43 percent, to close at 648.59.

Among the six trading stocks, the price of ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC) and Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PWSA) fell 0.59 percent and 0.36 percent, respectively to 4.09 dollars and 1.36 dollars.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,609.94 up 18.46 points or 1.16 percent, and the Emas was at 11,466.50 up 143.49 points or 1.27 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 169.50 points, or 0.69 percent, to 24,772.76 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,642.35 and 24,942.74. Turnover totaled 112.42 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 14.51 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed lower on Tuesday despite a strong start to the day's trading as the gold rally stalled in the afternoon.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 23.70 points or 0.39 percent at 6,020.50, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 22.80 points or 0.37 percent at 6,146.80.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Tuesday as solid early gains made on technology issues' advance gave way to market caution and selling ahead of the release of corporate earnings reports.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 58.47 points, or 0.26 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,657.38.

SEOUL -- South Korean shares ended higher Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 39.13 points, or 1.76 percent, to settle at 2,256.99. Trading volume stood at 851.3 million shares worth 17.2 trillion won (14.4 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.13 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 66.17 points to 5,927.11. The all-share index went up by 25.81 points, or 0.74 percent, to 3,493.64.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, dropped by 0.06 percent to 11,578 on Tuesday.

The drop was led by Ascension Capital Limited, which went down by 33.33 percent to 0.002 NZ dollars (0.0013 U.S. dollars), while AFC Group Holdings Limited jumped by 100 percent to 0.002 NZ dollars. Enditem
