LISBON, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A Portuguese consortium led by the BLC3 Association announced on Tuesday that it had developed equipment that eliminates the novel coronavirus through "controlled" emission of radiation waves which are "much more efficient than solar radiation."

The coordinator of the investigation, Joao Nunes, explained to the Portuguese Lusa News Agency that the "AT MicroProtect" technology consists of a device that emits radiation waves of a specific length that can eliminate the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19 disease, in the air.

It has been known for decades that ultraviolet radiation lamps are capable of eliminating bacteria and viruses, but in tests conducted by the BLC3 team, all of the 16,982 SARS-CoV-2 particles exposed to these new waves, only five particles were not eliminated in one minute -- representing a 99.97 percent elimination.

According to the researcher, the test was carried out on 27 samples from different places in the world, and "all results have been scientifically validated."

Nunes said the equipment does not use any chemicals and only needs electrical energy to start emitting "radiation waves."

Nunes said that the equipment should be installed primarily in the workplaces of health professionals, in transports, and places with a high number of people, such as airports, shopping centers, or nursing homes. Enditem
