RIYADH, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said on Wednesday that Yemen's government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

He tweeted that it is a positive step towards reaching a wholistic and sustainable political solution in Yemen under the auspices of the United Nations.

Meanwhile, an official source was quoted in a statement on the Saudi Press Agency as saying that the kingdom had proposed the mechanisms to accelerate the implementation of the agreement which were agreed by both parties.

The mechanisms include maintaining the cease-fire and de-escalation between the government and the STC, which came into effect on July 22.

The mechanisms also include the appointment of a governor and security director for Aden governorate and assigning Yemeni prime minister to form a government of political competencies within 30 days.

In addition, the military forces should exit Aden and the forces of the two parties in Abyan governorate should be separated and return to their previous positions.

Finally, the government of political competencies shall be formed with equal representation from the north and the south of Yemen.

Once this is implemented, the government should commence its work in Aden, and oversee the completion of the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement in accordance with all its clauses.

The Saudi foreign minister revealed that efforts to bring the two side into an agreement was through the participation and support of the United Arab Emirates.

Saudi Arabia values the positive response from Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, the delegations of the Yemeni government and the STC, while stressing the importance of adhering to what was agreed upon, the official said. Enditem
