NAIROBI, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The world 3,000m steeplechase record holder Beatrice Chepkoech has been confirmed for the Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco scheduled for August 14.

Chepkoech, 29, had her last race at the World Athletics Indoor Tour meeting in Dusseldorf, Germany in February, winning the 1,500m race with a Kenyan national record of 4:02.09. She will line up in the women's 5,000m event alongside compatriot and world champion Hellen Obiri.

"It's great that I will be returning to Monaco, the meeting where I broke the world steeplechase record of 8:44.32. The performance still lingers in my mind to date," Chepkoech told Xinhua on Wednesday from her training base in Kericho, some 270km west of Nairobi.

"The Monaco meeting will definitely open up more track and field meetings across the globe after months of lockdowns due to the coronavirus. I'm excited about the return of competitions," she added.

Chepkoech, also the reigning world 3,000m steeplechase champion, trains under the watchful eye of Gabriel Kiptanui and holds personal best of 14:39.33 in 5,000m.

Apart from Chepkoech, the organizers of the meeting also confirmed the participation of three other global champions, including world 800m champion and 2019 Diamond League winner Donavan Brazier of the United States.

The world 110m hurdles champion Grant Holloway will compete in Monaco for the first time.

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has also been confirmed for Monaco.

Having finished third over 100m in 2018 and second in the 200m last year, the Jamaican sprinter will move back down to a shorter distance, and she'll be keen to achieve her first victory at the Stade Louis II.

Other top Kenyans up for the meeting include world champions Timothy Cheruiyot (1,500m), Conseslus Kipruto (3,000m steeplechase) and youngster Vincent Keter (1,500m). Enditem
