ANKARA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Turkey will impose no further restrictions against COVID-19 for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Wednesday but urged citizens to take precautions.

"Celebrate the Eid by phone and please visit graveyards after Eid," the minister told reporters at a press conference following a meeting with the Coronavirus Science Board.

He urged the public not to kiss, shake hands or hug each other during the holiday and asked people to stay in the livestock markets as little as possible.

Muslims will celebrate Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, between July 31 and Aug. 3 in Turkey. People visit livestock markets to buy an animal to sacrifice, then pay visits to elderly relatives or graveyards during the religious holiday.

Turkey's COVID-19 cases increased by 942 on Wednesday, while the total diagnosed cases climbed to 228,924, Koca said.

Meanwhile, 14 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 5,659, he tweeted.

Turkish health professionals conducted 45,712 tests in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall number of tests to 4,711,095, he said.

A total of 996 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 212,557 in Turkey since the outbreak, Koca said.

The rate of pneumonia in COVID-19 patients is 9.4 percent and the number of seriously ill patients is 542, he stated.

Turkey reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11.

Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19. Chinese doctors and medical experts held video conferences with Turkish counterparts to share China's experience in treating coronavirus patients, protecting medical workers, and controlling the spread of the virus. Enditem
