BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan reported 420 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, raising the total number of infections in the country to 36,719.
The country's health authorities on COVID-19 said that 19 of the new cases are medical workers, bringing the caseload of infected medical workers to 2,809.

ACCRA -- The number of people infected by the novel coronavirus in Ghana has increased to 37,014 as 787 new cases confirmed here early Sunday, Ghana Health Service (GHS) said.
The GHS put the figure for recovered and discharged cases at 33,365, while 1,269 additional confirmed infected cases completed their treatment.

DHAKA -- The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors have approved 202 million U.S. dollars in additional financing for the Modern Food Storage Facilities Project to increase the storage capacity of Bangladesh's national strategic grain reserves by 535,500 tons for 4.5 million households.
The project is helping Bangladesh to address food insecurity in challenging times, such as frequent climate-induced disasters or crisis situations like the current COVID-19 pandemic, said the Washington-based lender in a statement received here Sunday.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 115 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, the 12th consecutive day of more than 100 cases.
All of the newly reported cases are local infections, bringing Hong Kong's total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,511.

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 103,185 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported a record-high 5,032 new cases on Sunday, making a record daily increase for the fourth consecutive day.
The DOH reported 3,954 new cases on Thursday, 4,063 on Friday and 4,963 on Saturday, and the number of recoveries further rose to 65,557 after it reported 301 patients who have recovered from the disease.

TEHRAN -- Iran's confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 309,437 on Sunday after an overnight registration of 2,685 new infections, official IRNA new agency reported.
Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing that out of the new cases in the past 24 hours, 1,423 have been hospitalized.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh has seen a moderate daily decrease in the number of new infections, with a total number of 3,154 deaths, according to the country's Health Ministry official on Sunday.
The country on Sunday reported 886 new cases and 22 COVID-19 related fatalities, with the total number of infections increasing to 240,746.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 5,427 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 850,870, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Sunday.
Meanwhile, 70 new deaths were reported, taking the nationwide count to 14,128, according to the statement.

JAKARTA -- The tally of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 1,519 within one day to 111,455, with the death toll adding by 43 to 5,236, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry also said 1,056 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 68,975.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia repatriated 260 nationals on a chartered flight from South Korea on Saturday, according to the country's State Emergency Commission (SEC).
The Seoul-Ulan Bator flight landed at the Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport on Saturday evening, the SEC said in a statement on Sunday.

BANGKOK -- A Thai medical doctor who specializes in epidemiology and an advisor to the Ministry of Public Health on Sunday voiced concerns about the Thai government's plan to lift the ban on foreign arrivals, allowing tourists to return to Thailand through the bubble travel plan.
He told the media of his concerns after the Thai health authorities discovered two foreigners who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are now in quarantine in Thailand.

WASHINGTON -- Only 34 percent of Americans approve of U.S. President Donald Trump's handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.
