NEW DELHI -- India's health ministry announced on Monday that the country's COVID-19 cases have surpassed 1.8 million, reaching 1,803,695.

As many as 52,972 fresh cases were added to the tally in the past 24 hours, according to data released by the ministry. (India-COVID-19)

BANGKOK -- Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday instructed authorities to help flood victims in several provinces affected by tropical storm Sinluka.

The prime minister confirmed he has ordered the authorities, especially those in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Nan, the northeastern province of Loei and the central province of Phitsanulok to urgently take relief measures for villagers affected by torrential rains and flash floods due to the tropical storm. SEOUL -- China is expected to record a positive gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year by overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic at a fastest pace, a South Korean economic expert said.

"China's second-quarter GDP growth is 3.2 percent. If China's economy is normalized and its GDP rises between 6 and 7 percent in the third and fourth quarters, China's annual GDP growth rate would be in a range of 2.6-3.0 percent this year," Jeon Byeong-seo, director at the Institute of Chinese Economic and Financial Research, said in a recent interview with Xinhua. JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- Up to 24 people including three attackers were killed as fighting for the control of Jalalabad prison in the eastern Nangarhar province has been continuing since Sunday evening, a provincial government spokesman said Monday.
