BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.11 percent, at 3,371.69 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.75 percent lower at 13,860.46 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 488.50 points, or 2.00 percent, to 24,946.63 points on Tuesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,539.44 and 25,062.41. Turnover totaled 145.98 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 18.84 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Tuesday as investor sentiment was lifted by some solid domestic corporate earnings results, with data showing U.S. manufacturing expanded in July adding to broader hopes for a global economic recovery.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 378.28 points, or 1.70 percent, from Monday to close the day at 22,573.66.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 1.24 percent, or 30.79 points, to close at 2,515.70.

A total of 1.42 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.43 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.04 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 250 to 184.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Tuesday.

Benchmark indices recovered previous session losses and also broke the four day losing streak supported by the banking, energy, infra and pharma stocks.

SYDNEY -- Broad-based gains lifted the Australian share market higher on Tuesday, with tech stocks leading the pack, up 3.2 percent.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 111.50 points or 1.88 percent at 6,037.60, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 112.60 points or 1.86 percent at 6,166.50.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.04 percent higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 59.58 points to 5,775.50. The all-share index went up by 28.51 points, or 0.84 percent, to 3,426.97.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Tuesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 5.48 points, or 0.82 percent, to close at 664.88.

A total of 37,378 shares worth 543.9 million riels (132,692 U.S. dollars) was traded, the CSX said, adding that 69 percent of the traded shares belonged to the ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC).

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,075.00 points on Tuesday, up by 68.78 points, or 1.37 percent against that of the previous trading day.

Approximately 9.02 billion shares worth more than 8.51 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 585.27 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 112.50 points on Tuesday, up 2.08 points or 1.88 percent from the previous trading session.

Approximately 45.5 million shares worth nearly 480.7 billion Vietnamese dong (20.9 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Specifically, foreign investors bought 518,292 shares valued at over 6.5 billion Vietnamese dong (284,700 U.S. dollars), and sold 883,306 shares valued at over 7.4 billion Vietnamese dong (321,800 U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 827.57 points on Tuesday, up 12.92 points, or 1.59 percent against the previous trading day.

Over 277.4 million shares worth nearly 4.2 trillion Vietnamese dong (181.7 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Specifically, foreign investors bought 15.1 million shares totaling 414 billion Vietnamese dong (18 million U.S. dollars), and sold 19.3 million shares totaling 528 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 23 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Tuesday moved up 9.58 points, or 0.72 percent to close at 1,330.81 points.
